How long do my dogs have to stay off the grass seed/fertilizer?

We planted grass seed and fertilizer 2 days ago. Accordingly we’re walking our dogs now instead of letting them out in to the yard. My concern is more for the safety of my dogs and the amount of fertilizer in the dirt. How long before it is safe to let the dogs back into the yard?

Let the dogs out. Fertilizer is not a pesticide. They are safe to be out with grass seed on their head and fertilizer on their tail.

Most fertilizers would be of very low toxicity to dogs, unless they decided to munch on a bag of it. However, if the dogs are ramming around in newly planted areas, you aren’t going to get a good stand of grass. I’d try to keep them off until the grass has formed a good sod — a year or so.
